Wild Rice Data Collection
This page contains the raw data on wild rice coverage in Spur Lake from 1987 to the present. Scientists have been monitoring Spur Lake for decades, recording how much of the lake is covered by wild rice each year.

Data Collection Methods
The data on this page has been collected using several methods over time:
- Aerial Surveys: Photographs taken from aircraft to estimate total rice coverage
- Boat Surveys: Scientists travel by canoe through the lake to count plants in sample plots
- Fixed Plot Monitoring: Regular measurements at the same locations year after year
- Traditional Knowledge: Observations from local Ojibwe rice harvesters
Note: There may be gaps in some years when surveys could not be completed. Methods have been kept as consistent as possible to allow for valid comparisons over time.
